The Priscilla Kincaid-Smith Kidney Research Foundation is a research steam of Kidney Health Australia Research. It has been established by Kidney Health Australia to promote research into prevention of kidney disease.

A medical pioneer and an incredible and inspirational woman, Professor Kincaid-Smith, who was one of the founders of Kidney Health Australia, is best remembered for her many outstanding clinical and scientific achievements and her care for her patients. Her research significantly contributed to identifying the link between the kidneys and high blood pressure – a key public health message being conveyed to the Australian community by Kidney Health Australia today. She was the first woman to be appointed a Professor at the University of Melbourne and became President of the Royal Australian College of Physicians, the International Society of Nephrology, and the World Medical Association.

Nominations for the Kincaid-Smith Medal have now closed.

The Kincaid-Smith Medal, Kidney Health Australia’s highest accolade, recognises the achievements of an Australian citizen or resident who has dedicated their career to research into the treatment of disease of the kidneys and urinary tract.  This prestigious award was established to honour the outstanding clinical and scientific achievements of Emeritus Professor Priscilla Kincaid-Smith, AC, CBE.

Congratulations to the winner of the 2018 Kincaid-Smith Medal, Dr Carmel Hawley.
