Big Red Kidney Bus - NSW

Stephen on the Big Red Kidney Bus

Important notice

Our Big Red Kidney Bus was due to provide holiday dialysis in Batemans Bay during February and March. Due to bushfire threatening the area, we have worked with Royal North Shore Hospital to amend the schedule to ensure the safety of patients and staff.

The NSW Bus is now planned to be stationed at Batemans Bay from 17 February until 14 March. Please contact the Bus team with any questions.

Stephen first used the Big Red Kidney Bus in Ballina, June 2019. After his first time he was hooked, booking two more trips for later that year. Stephen is no stranger to travel and hasn’t let his end-stage kidney disease get in the way of exploring this beautiful country.

“Planning is a big part of travelling whilst on dialysis and using the Big Red Kidney Bus makes planning for trips so much easier. It is so simple to go online to see the bus locations and to book through the Kidney Health Australia website. I can’t express enough how great this facility is! The staff are excellent and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and even introduce you to fellow Bus users.”

Further information

You’ll need to book your own holiday accommodation. Most of the holiday parks where the Bus is located give a discount, so please mention the Big Red Kidney Bus when making a booking.

Arrange transport to and from the holiday destination, as well as from your accommodation to the Bus location for your dialysis. There is a hydraulic hoist on the Bus, therefore, we are able to accommodate people with wheelchairs. However, you need to be able to transfer from the wheelchair to the dialysis chair unassisted.

Dates and locations are subject to change under extenuating circumstances.

Please read the admission criteria before you book a haemodialysis dialysis chair. In NSW, Royal North Shore provides the clinical and medical aspects of the Big Red Kidney Bus and will confirm bookings once the admission criteria has been met.
